Kindle Unlimited FAQ
Kindle Unlimited FAQ
The questions I keep getting since the move to Kindle Unlimited, with short, honest answers. If yours isn't here, hit reply on any email from me — I read all of them.
Why is everything on Kindle Unlimited now?
Two reasons, and I'll be straight with you about both.
The first is that KU has more than ten million subscribers, and a lot of them already pay for it and barely touch it. Putting both series on KU means readers who'd never have found me on this site can borrow the books for what they're already paying Amazon every month — which is, from their side, zero additional dollars.
The second is that I'd been hosting full chapters here for paid members, and Amazon's KDP Select rule says exclusivity = no copies of the ebook anywhere else, including a personal site. Which meant I had to choose: keep posting chapters here and leave half my catalog off Kindle Unlimited forever, or pivot the site and put everything on KU.
I picked the catalog. The longer story is here if you want it.
I'm a paid member. What happens to my subscription?
Your subscription doesn't end and your billing doesn't change. The tier is just shifting from "read full chapters on the site" to a set of extras I'm honestly more excited about anyway. Specifically:
- Early cover reveals before the public launch
- Deleted scenes and the extended epilogues editors made me cut
- World-building deep dives for Valdoria and the Wild Flowers timeline
- Character art and the visual references I usually only show beta readers
- Audio previews from the audiobook pipeline
- Bonus short stories — Fallen Hearts side stories, Wild Flowers prequel snippets — that stay site-exclusive
Same price. Different value. (I'd argue better value, but I'm biased and you should be the judge of that.)
Do I have to do anything?
No, sweetheart. Nothing. Your account, billing, and login are all the same. The new tier extras start showing up in the members area as I publish them.
If something looks off — missing access, a billing question, anything — reply to any email from me and I'll take care of it personally.
What if the new tier isn't what I want? How do I cancel?
You can cancel any time from the account page, or reply to any email I've sent you and I'll cancel it for you. No retention pop-ups, no "are you sure?" forms, no friction. If the new value prop isn't what you originally signed up for, I get it completely. The unsubscribe is one click.
How do I read your books now?
Easiest path:
- Open the Kindle app or visit my Amazon author page.
- Pick a book. If you're on KU, hit "Read for free." If you're not, the regular ebook prices haven't changed at all.
- The first chapter of every book is still right here on the site if you want to sample before you commit.
That's the whole flow. The book opens in your Kindle app — phone, tablet, e-reader, or web reader — and you read it the way you read everything else.
What about paperbacks?
Same place, same price, same paperback. Nothing about the physical books changed. KDP Print serves the same edition to Amazon and the handful of indie bookstore platforms it reaches, and that distribution is exactly what it was last week.
If you've been collecting the matching covers, you're not going to wake up to a different cover edition or a price hike. Promise.
What about audiobooks?
Audiobooks are a separate distribution conversation. The plan — unchanged by the KU move — is to put audiobooks wide: Audible (via KDP's Virtual Voice program), Apple Books, Google Play, Kobo, and the indie audiobook platforms via INaudio. KU exclusivity applies to the ebook only, not the audio version.
I'm rolling out audiobooks one title at a time, and the newsletter is where I'll announce them as they go live. If audio is the only format that fits your life, that pipeline is still coming.
I don't have Kindle Unlimited. What are my options?
You've got three good ones:
- The free trial. Amazon runs a 30-day free trial on KU that most people forget exists. You get the entire Fallen Hearts and Wild Flowers catalogs (plus everything else on KU) for thirty days, free. Cancel by day 30 and it costs you nothing.
- Buy the ebook. Prices are exactly what they were last week. Amazon page, normal checkout, done.
- Read chapter one free on the site. Every book has a public preview here. If the first chapter doesn't pull you in, no transaction happened and we're both fine.
Is the first chapter still free on the site?
Yes. Permanently. Every book has a landing page with chapter one readable right here. The only change is that chapters two onward live on Amazon now instead of behind a member paywall on the site.
What about the blog and the short stories?
Both stay. The blog isn't going anywhere — the trope deep dives, the behind-the-scenes posts, the rambling rants about romance conventions — all of that continues. Bonus short stories (the Fallen Hearts side stories and Wild Flowers prequel snippets) are site-exclusive, not enrolled in KDP Select, and free to read here.
I have a question that isn't on this list.
Reply to any email from me, or use the contact form on the site. I read everything. Real reply, from me, usually within a day or two.
All my love,
Elara
